Lessons from the History of Social Media

I, like many from my generation, have a variety of social platforms listed under the “Skills” section of my resume -- this of course means that we spend more time using them than doing actual work, and must thusly qualify as some level of proficient -- and yet, “Social Media Expert” is an increasingly hard sell. It seems like every month one of the pre-existing outlets implements a paradigm shifting update, and every year there’s a new hot social app or site; anyone who claims unilateral expertise is a liar.
