Suit Up! For a Night Out: Rise Helps Raise $50,000 for Brain Cancer Research

Risers, friends, clients, and partners gathered for a great time and an even greater cause at our first annual charity night on August 21. We’re thrilled to share that the event helped us raise more than $50,000 for brain cancer research.

Suit Up! For a Night Out was hosted at Rise’s Chicago Loop headquarters and benefitted Voices Against Brain Cancer (VABC), an organization with a mission to find a cure for brain cancer by advancing scientific research, increasing awareness within the medical community, and supporting patients, as well as their families and caregivers.

Our agency’s own event space, Burst Lounge, was transformed into a pop-up casino, complete with poker, craps, blackjack, and roulette tables. Guests enjoyed drinks, hors d’oeuvres, raffles, and a silent auction in a 1920s lounge atmosphere, complete with live music from Chicago Diamond Trio.

We also honored Dan Kresach and his fundraising team with the “Rise Above” award, recognizing their outstanding fundraising efforts for VABC’s 2015 Chicago Run/Walk, which took place in May.

The fight against brain cancer is one that personally affects our Rise family. Our dear friend and colleague, Sean Roach, succumbed to brain cancer in 2014 at the age of 33. As one of Rise’s founding employees, Sean helped develop many of our early technologies and protocols and much of the work that he did has allowed Rise to grow into the company it is today.

Supporting Chicago-area doctors and hospitals who are working to find a cure for brain cancer allows us to honor Sean’s memory and unite Risers in support of this important cause.

Throughout his amazing fight against brain cancer, Sean continued to have an incredible attitude. No matter what news was given to him, he always found and focused on the positive in such a trying time. He even wore his tux to his last day of chemo. In fact, Suit Up! in the event’s name pays homage to Sean’s strength and spirit.

As our founder and CEO, Jon Morris, shared, “Sean will always be the epitome of what Rise stands for. Quite literally, he embodied R.I.S.E. (respect, innovation, satisfaction, excellence) and is someone who truly cared about everyone. He put his heart and soul into creating the highest quality work and elevating those around him. Sean will continue to impact us at Rise for many years to come."
